Five Things Friday

Waiting: on the response from our appraisal. STILL. (full disclosure, we got a value back on tuesday but it was much lower than we were hoping for. luckily, i literally read a handful of appraisals for work every week so i was able to go through ours very carefully. i found more than 30 mistakes - several big enough to affect overall value. i submitted the list of mistakes with the correct information and more recently closed sales that support the value we need and now underwriting will review it. frustrating.) i'm not very patient.

Listening: Somebody That I Used to Know by Gotye and Cameo Lover by Kimbra. It's a silly song, but good for running and dancing around my office.

Reading: Worst Decorating Trends of 2011 from Elle Decor and Decorating Trends on Apartment Therapy. I'll admit that I'm not particularly trendy, but that's mostly because I can't afford to change up my decor that often. Still, I never quite understood the arranging books by color trend or the making furniture out of pallets trend. What trends are you incorporating? What trends do you wish would disappear?

Watching: um...so maybe i started watching Gossip Girl on Netflix streaming. (red shame face) Someone told me that if I like Revenge and Vampire Diaries, I would like Gossip Girl. So why not add another totally unnecessary television show to my already long list of regulars?

Running: My first race of 2012 tomorrow! Just a quick 10K supporting a local school. I'm familiar with the course and it should be a fairly easy one. Even though it's just the length of a regular run, I'm excited to be in a race atmosphere again. It's addicting. :)

Happy Friday!

I love "Somebody That I Used to Know." I first heard the cover with five people on one guitar, so I looked for the original, and I became slightly obsessed, playing it over and over and over. It's more angsty than my usual listening choices, but there's just something so captivating about that song. I'll have to check out the other Kimbra song, too.

Hmmm... decorating trends. I guess I'm not that trendy either. I would love to paint my cabinets white, but Dave is so not on board with that. But it would be so pretty with my light blue walls. I did buy old dining chairs and had them painted blue. For the most part, I do my own thing, which usually involves lots of bold colors and lots of patterns. I'm oddly attracted to circles.

I think it's good to just do what you like, even if it's trendy, as long as you're not doing it just because it's trendy, because then you'll hate it next year.

i've heard that version! I love it! And yes, I have played this on repeat for the last week. It's so different from what I normally listen to, but it gets stuck in my head and is strangely addictive.
i love my white cabinets. i know they are trendy right now, but they are also a classic choice. i used to love my red dining room chairs but after a few years, i am really wanting to replace them with a muted color upholstered chair. i like that you're obsessed with circles. that made me laugh.
and i'm with you and those damn "keep calm" posters.

GOOD LUCK at your race tomorrow! Yay!

Now that I've stopped reading design blogs as much as I used to, I am not as aware of what's trendy... which is so nice! Inspiration is always great, but there's a limit -- at a certain point, you have to decide what you like and just go for it. It's hard when you post pictures of your house on the internet to not think about the comments that people will make about it... but really, who cares? It's my damn house!

Also, good for you for picking through your appraisal and standing up for yourselves! I'm sure tons of people just take it at face value and get cheated... I hope you get good news.

i have definitely jumped on some of the trendy bandwagons. my books are organized by color (i know! but we never actually read any of them? ok that's worse), and i just recently DIYed a hollywood regency-esque piece. BUT it's the only thing in my house like that!

i feel like i'm constantly changing things up so i'm ok with some of the trends. i will never pay a lot of money for something trendy- same goes for clothes!

(i also have my fair share of chevron and trellis prints. damnit! no pallets though - i hate those things.)
